On Saturday I attended “The Actors Bootcamp” sponsored by The Beacon Entertainment Ministry at Bel Air Presbyterian Church. “The Actors Bootcamp” is a day of workshops hosted by industry professionals including casting directors, talent agents, directors, and acting coaches. The Bootcamp is a great event and I volunteered again this year to run the registration booth and registration volunteers.
After a morning panel where the instructors talked about their experiences in the business, the Bootcamp participants broke off into smaller workshops. The workshops that I attended were Audition Technique: Telling The Truth, Cold Reading for Comedy and Cold Reading for Feature Films.
My first workshop was taught by Anthony Barnao, an Independent Casting Director and Acting Coach. I was paired with another participant for a cold reading scene. Anthony then gave us audition tips.
My second workshop of the day was taught by Kim Dorr. Kim Dorr is the owner of Defining Artists, an adult theatrical boutique agency. In Kim’s class, I was again paired with another participant and given a scene from a half hour comedy. The class focused on character, timing and comedic brightness.
The last workshop of the day was taught by Beverly Holloway, the Casting Director at Dean River Productions. In Beverly’s class I worked on camera. I was given a cold reading scene from a feature film.
Overall it was another great Actors Bootcamp! I was thrilled to be involved both as a volunteer and a student!
