New Headshots!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I had new headshots taken by the incredibly talented, Melissa Blue.  Melissa has a great way of capturing the essence of your personality with her shots. She also is great at lighting, which really makes all the difference.  I couldn’t be more happy with the different looks she captured.  I posted a few of my favs, but what do you think?  Which one is your favorite?

To check out Melissa’s work or to schedule a session with her, visit: http://melissabluephoto.com/

I also want to thank Lilia Ultreras for the flawless make up.  The right make up in a headshot changes everything. Trust me, I’ve had my share of shots over the years. Lilia has an incredible eye and she is simply a pleasure to be around.

I’m so grateful to have worked with both of these ladies!

Two Auditions on Wednesday

I had two auditions on Wednesday!  This is the life of a working actress in LA.  Not the one I expected when I was a bright-eyed, recent college graduate, but a more realistic version.

I received notification from my agents at CU that I would have a late afternoon commercial audition the night before.  But around noon, I received a call about a co-star audition from my agents at Clear Talent Group. Nice! I downloaded the sides as my toddler climbed on my back and tried to strike all the keys on my computer.  It was a nice scene on a confidential CW show and I started working on it as soon as I got my toddler down for her nap.

I love nap time, when it happens.  I showered, dressed and ran lines before braving late afternoon traffic on my way to Studio City.

My first stop was Beth Holmes Casting.  This was my first time auditioning for Beth Holmes, which was very exciting.  I walked into the casting facility at Loudmouth Studios fifteen minutes early to look over the sides.  There was a sea of blondes in the room when I arrived.  A casting associate in the lobby paired me with another actor and we rehearsed the lines until it was our turn.

The audition was on tape for casting.  The casting associate already knew the actor I was paired with and they started chit-chatting about people they knew.  On a side note, sometimes this happens. Some actors are really “buddy buddy” with the casting directors.  For my readers, especially fellow actors, don’t let that throw you.  You’re there to do a job, and it is okay if you do not have a prior relationship with casting.  If you’re right for the role, you’re right for the role.   So, back to the audition. After their brief chit-chat, we ran through the scene twice.   I felt happy with the audition. I felt that my fellow actor and I had a nice “banter” in the audition.  I’m really hoping for a call back.

Next, I was off to Hollywood.

I had some time to kill and was starving, so I hit up my favorite fast food restaurant: Chick-Fil-A. I got a chicken sandwich and a carrot & raisin salad.  Yum.  Generally I’m not big fan of fast foot, but I think the food quality is a lot better than most places.  I also practiced my lines over, and over, again in the parking lot.  To the other patrons I probably looked a little funny “talking to myself” in the car, but oh well!

Afterwards I drove over to Sunset/Gower Studios for my co-star audition.  Gower Street is a scary place at night.  I had to park on the street, and the only spot I could find was several blocks away from the entrance to the studio.  The neighborhood isn’t that great and I briskly walked by a number of homeless men who were bundled up for the night.  I walked close to the street and held my keys tightly just in case someone tried to grab my bag.  Luckily I didn’t have any trouble.

I made it safely to the studio, checked in, and bee-lined straight to the bathroom to change into my new outfit. Once I was “prepped”, I signed in for the audition. There were a number of ladies in the small waiting room, all with different looks (a contrast to my earlier audition).   When it was my turn, I greeted the casting associate. I’ve been called into audition for this CW show 4 times now and it is always nice to see her.

I felt really confident walking into this audition.  But as soon as we started, I faltered on the lines even though I had my script in my hands. In spite of my prep work it just didn’t go as smoothly as I had rehearsed.  Why?  I don’t know.   Sadly, that’s just how it goes sometimes.   And unfortunately, co-star auditions are just one take.

So, now what?  I’m going to let it go and look forward to the next audition.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned in this Industry, it’s that you have let auditions “roll like water off a duck’s back”.  You must think of every audition as a job: you go it, do the work, and go home. If you dwell on what you said or how you said it, you’ll just drive yourself crazy.  You have to focus on the “win”, which is that you had the audition in the first place.

You may be wondering why I’m fessing up to my not so stellar audition.  Well, because that’s life. If things went perfectly every time, I wouldn’t grow as an actor or as a person.   And who knows what role is waiting for me around the corner?  You may have heard the old phrase “When God closes a door, He opens a window”. Well, I’m just looking for my next window.

Commercial Callback at Brigid McBride Casting

I was very excited to receive a call from my agents on Monday about a callback for Brigid McBride Casting.  I just fell in  love with this super cute commercial spot.

The callback was same day, scheduled for 2:45 PM in Santa Monica.  I left the house super early.  The 405 South was completely clear, and I arrived in Santa Monica 40 minutes early.  I circled the block, checked my e-mail on my phone, and then wandered into the audition 20 minutes early.

The audition was at a different location, 902 Colorado.  This is the same location as the audition I had at Dan Bell Casting last week.  I signed in with Lucy, and waiting to be paired with another actor.  We chatted about the last audition with Dan Bell Casting and all the cute kiddos that were in the lobby.

I also spotted Mike, the casting associate from the original audition.  He is a funny guy.  I like how he breaks down the scene. He brought each group of actors into the audition room and introduced them.

I was paired with a really cool actor.  We went over our lines a few times and then spent the rest of the time gabbing and building a rapport for the audition.

I wore the same outfit from the original audition, a blue dress with a cardi belted around my waist and knee high boots.  As I was standing waiting to walk into the audition room, I looked down and noticed I had a big run in my nylons!  Eek.  Just then the door opened and we were ushered in.  Se la vie!

We met the client and the director and then slated for the camera.  A slate is a quick greeting, introducing yourself on camera.

The other actor I was paired with was great.  I felt we worked well together.  We had two takes, the second we took notes for the director.

Thank you to Casting Director, Brigid McBride, for the callback!!

Commercial CALLBACK

My daughter and I had a callback at Dan Bell Casting!  We were scheduled for a 2 PM callback on Tuesday, April 17th.

When we arrived the casting office was filled with adorable babies and toddlers!  My sweet pea wanted to talk to each of them, so we walked around the room and made new friends. We also met Dan Bell in the lobby, who was very nice.

Before I knew it, we were up.  Dan escorted us into the room and we met the clients and the director.  The casting associate gave me the rundown for the commercial and the director gave a few notes before calling “Action”.   My girl was really cute, talking to me and pointing out things in the room.  I think she did a great job.

Thank you to Dan Bell Casting for the callback!!

Commercial Audition at Dan Bell Casting

Friday was a day of firsts! My 15 month old and I had our first Mother/Daughter Commercial Audition at Dan Bell Casting, an office I’ve never auditioned at before.

Our audition was scheduled for 11:20 AM.  Since the baby naps at 11:30 AM (was acting particularly grumpy that morning),  I packed her up early in an effort to arrive early at the casting office in Santa Monica   My hope was that we would audition and then the baby would be able to sleep in the car on the ride home. However, when we arrived, I realized she had fallen asleep in her carseat!  I decided to let her sleep.  At ten after 11, I woke her and packed her in the stroller. Luckily there were not too many tears! I gave her some snacks.  I’ve learned that distraction is the key to parenting.

My mind was racing as I signed in.  “How will she act in this audition?” I thought to myself. “Will she be grumpy?” “Will she cry?” I decided I couldn’t worry too much about it.  Kids will be kids.

Once we arrived, however, she was really interested in the other babies in the room.  My girl was older than the other babies, who were all between 7 and 10 months old.  She pointed at the other babies and “chatted” with the moms.  Things were looking up!

When it was our turn, we walked into the casting room and met the casting associate.  I had a few lines, the rest of the audition was about the baby.  And she did a great job!  She was just so sweet.  She wasn’t her usual smiley self, but she was chatty and oh so cute.  Even the casting associate couldn’t help but react to her.

I am grateful that our first audition together went so well!  Special thanks to Dan Bell Casting for calling us in and to my agents at CU for submitting us!

Commercial Audition and a Funny Story

Today, I had a commercial audition at Ross Lacy Casting!  I haven’t been called in by Ross Lacy since before my pregnancy, so it was really awesome to get the opportunity.

I had a 2:45 PM audition scheduled and I arrived 15 minutes early.  My friend, Jen, met me there so she could watch the baby.   I’m lucky to have such a good friend.

I arrived in my best commercial “mom” attire: cardigan sweater and jeans (watch any commercial featuring a mom and you’ll see).  I knew my friend had an audition this afternoon as well so, counting the names of actresses who signed in before me,  I found myself with a common dilemma:

Do I sign in now, which reserves my spot, and hope that I finish primping before the four actresses ahead of me are done? Or do I primp in the ladies room first and risk the chance that several more actresses will arrive within that time and sign in, increasing my potential wait time?

Now, I realize this could sound like a silly dilemma to my readers, but I work in an industry of first impressions.

**Disclaimer: Yes, I take time to choose my outfit and fix my hair BEFORE I leave the house. But being a mom is a game changer! A lot can happen by the time I pack up the baby, change her diaper, debate on how many baby food squeeze packets/changes of outfits to bring, run back into the house for Cheerios (which my little sweet pea is asking for as I lock up the door… and since she only has a handful of words, this is a big deal), lumber down the steps to the parking garage with baby/purse/diaper bag/headshots/another bright-colored cardigan (in case the role is more comedic) in tow, pack everyone/thing into the car and drive 20 minutes to the audition site.**

So, back to my dilemma, I decided to take a gamble and sign in FIRST.  As I turned to Jen to say “I’m going to run to the ladies room”,  my name was called for the audition. Awesome.  So I had to forgo the lip gloss, yank out my ponytail and shove my sunglasses into my pocket as I walked into the audition room.

To top it off, I was chewing gum, which is a big “NO, NO!”  I looked frantically for a garbage can. Two wire metal trash cans were within range, but neither had a bag in them so I improvised and pressed the gum to the roof of my mouth.  Ha! I haven’t done that since 8th grade history class in an effort to avoid getting written up by Mrs. Denges (and if you’re reading this, Mrs. Denges, it was only once).  This was not an ideal situation, but sometimes you gotta make it work.

The audition went smooth and I was in and out (and, in case you were wondering, at no time did I choke on the gum).

This just goes to show that even a seasoned commercial actress needs a little reminder now and then of proper audition protocol: PRIMP BEFORE YOU SIGN IN.

Did this crazy situation mess up my “game face” or ruin my chances at receiving a call back? I would say no.  It’s like planning a wedding–no matter how much you anticipate, something will always go wrong and usually the only one to notice it is you.  So, if I’m right for the part it won’t matter that every hair was not in place.

I had one last surprise as Jen and I were saying our goodbyes. My sweet little teething girl, let out a big scream in the middle of the crowded, 6 room casting facility.  *Sigh*  And with that, it was time to go.  Never a dull moment!

Overall, it was so nice to read for Ross Lacy Casting again. As always, I am grateful for the opportunity and for my wonderful agents at Commercials Unlimited, who consistently submit me for great projects!

Commercial CALLBACK!

Today I had a commercial callback for Sabyn Mayfield Casting.  The callback was at 2701 Oceanpark Casting Facility,  a different location than the original audition.

When I arrived, the casting associate from the other day, Ian, walked out of the audition room.  I smiled at him as I waited my turn to audition.  We were told that the audition would be the same as the other day and I was paired with another actor.

I greeted the clients and the director as I walked in. They were really friendly. Often the clients do not talk to the actors during the audition. Ian checked us in and called action.  And it a blink of an eye, the callback was over.  There was a real ease to the it, and so I left happy.

Thanks to my agents at Commercials Unlimited for submitting me and to everyone at Sabyn Mayfield Casting for the callback!

Commercial CALLBACK!

Friday I had a commercial callback for Joe Blake Casting.  The callback was in Santa Monica, but at a different location than the original audition.

It was a misty and cool day in Los Angeles, but lucky for me, traffic on the 405 was moving!  I arrived in record time, and with 15 minutes to spare.  There wasn’t any parking near the audition location. But luckily I found a spot a block away.

When I arrived, the casting associate from the other day, Nicholas, was there.  I greeted him as I signed in.  Two other women were there when I arrived, and soon after 3 more showed up.  I was the only blonde in that group.

We were told that the audition would be the same as the other day.  I was the second person to audition.

I greeted the clients and the director as I walked in. Nicholas called action and gave my audition.  And I felt really good about it.

The funny thing about auditions, you can give the best audition of your life and if you don’t have the right look the client wants, then you won’t be cast.  Similarly, you can have a so/so audition, but if you have the look, you’ll get the part.  For that reason, I tried to let auditions “run off my back like water”. I can’t dwell on them, I can’t think about what I could or couldn’t have done in the room.  I just have to trust that I did my job, and I did it well.

Special thanks to my wonderful agents at Commercials Unlimited for submitting me and to Joe Blake for the callback!

Commercial Audition at Davis Baddeley Casting

Today I had a commercial audition at Davis Baddeley Casting.  This is my second audition since returning from Maternity Leave and my first time auditioning for this office.

Today’s spot was for Procter and Gamble.   I arrived 10 minutes early for my morning audition at The Casting Underground in Hollywood.   As I waited, an actress I worked with on “The Cavemen Crib Party” webisode arrived to audition as well.  I was glad to see her.  She and I were pregnant at the same time, so we would bump into each other at maternity auditions last year.  Now we are both new moms, so it was great to talk about our experiences

Before I knew it, I was up.  Everyone was so nice in the room and this is a great commercial spot, so I’m grateful to Davis Baddeley Casting for calling me in to audition for the first time

Commercial Audition at Broadcast

Today I had a commercial audition at Broadcast.  This was my first commercial audition since returning from Maternity Leave and I have to admit, I was a little stressed.

First of all, I have to say I LOVE auditioning at Broadcast.  Everyone is so nice and they have been so sweet to me.  I booked Tidy Cat and American Express Commercials through Broadcast.  But I was stressing because getting out of the ouse on time with a newborn is tough.  I’ve quickly learned that the baby calls the shots!  And there are so many questions. Should I find a sitter for the baby?  Do I take her with me to the audition?  The good news, I already had plans with a girlfriend of mine, so I immediately called her, and she agreed to meet me at Broadcast and watch the baby while I auditioned.  I’m a lucky gal to have such a good friend

Today’s spot was for Natural Choice. This was a fun, non-dialogue spot

Special Thanks to Dan Cowan at Broadcast for the audition

Photos from the Barnes and Noble Commercial Shoot

On October 21, 2010 I filmed a Barnes and Noble National Commercial.  The product: the new Nookcolor E-reader. Since the commercial is now airing nationally, I wanted to post a couple of photos from set:

The "Waiting Room" actors

The commercial shot at an abandoned hospital in North Hollywood.  Apparently the hit TV show, Scrubs, once shot at this same location.

And here is a photo of me looking very much like a “Waiting Room Pregnant Lady”:

No, that is not a fake bump! Jennifer Keller is 7 1/2 months pregnant in this commercial

Commercial Audition at Skirts Casting

Today I had a commercial audition at Skirts Casting.  This is my first time auditioning for this office.

Today’s spot was for Hyndai.   I arrived at The Casting Lounge on South LaBrea for my morning audition. There is only street parking at The Casting Lounge and I had to park all the way at the end of the street!  Usually this isn’t a big deal, but when you’re 9 months pregnant it takes double the time to walk to the casting office, lol.

There was a bit of a wait and I noticed that I was the only pregnant girl in the waiting room.  So, this was not a commercial looking for pregnant actresses.  But no worries, I was thrilled to be called in and I gave it my best.

Thanks to Skirts Casting for calling me in to audition for the first time

My family actually spotted the 3/4 page ad in “Parade” section of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  What a pleasant surprise!

Also, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the National Tidy Cat Littler commercial that I shot along with the print ad!

National Commercial Booking for Jennifer!

Super exciting news!   I BOOKED A NATIONAL COMMERCIAL!   This commercial is for a new product, so I signed a confidentiality agreement saying I cannot talk about the product or parent company until the commercial begins to air. It shoots later this week.

This is my fourth commercial booking and third national commercial.  I feel very blessed.  Special thanks my agent Randi at CU for submitting me!

Commercial CALLBACK at Broadcast

Today I had a commercial callback for Dan Cowan at Broad Cast.   The callback was for GMC.

My callback was originally schedule for 4 PM.  I had a busy day at work today and just happened to check my personal messages around 2:40 PM and found out my callback had been moved to 3:15 PM!   Luckily I had finished my appointments for the day and was able to leave work right away.  Ah, the life of an actress.

Traffic was light and I made it to the casting office on Beverly just in time!  What a relief.  There were a couple of ladies in the waiting room when I arrived, but I was the only pregnant woman in that time slot.

The callback was slightly different from the original audition.  I’ve got to say, I still love this commercial spot, so clever.  And I got a laugh from the client at the end, which is always nice.

Special thanks to Dan Cowan for the callback today!

Commercial CALLBACK at Cathi Carlton Casting

Today I had commercial callback at Cathi Carlton Casting  for a Chevrolet commercial!  I was so excited to get the call from my agent Richie.  I just felt “so/so” after my audition and this is a great commercial spot.  I felt much better about my performance in the callback than the original audition.  So now I’ll just keep my fingers crossed : )

Special Thanks to Cathi Carlton for the callback!

Commercial CALLBACK for Lisa Pantone Casting

Today I had a commercial callback for a pregnant woman at for Lisa Pantone Casting.  The callback was at a different location that the original audition.  The callback was at 525 Broadway Casting in Santa Monica.

Today was another misty and cool day in Los Angeles and traffic on the 101 and 405 freeways were horrible.  I’m so glad I gave myself an hour to get to Santa Monica.  I was actually a little nervous I might be late.  But it finally cleared up half way down the 405 and I made it to Santa Monica with 10 minutes to spare.  I was relieved to find a parking spot right in front of the casting facility.

Again there were many cute pregnant actresses in casting office.  I do not envy decision that casting has to make.   But I felt great about my audition.

Special thanks to Lisa Pantone for the callback!

Commercial Audition for Cathi Carlton Casting

Today my commercial agent, Richie, notified me of a same day commercial audition for Cathi Carlton Casting.  The audition was held at 2701 Ocean Park Casting Facility in Santa Monica.  Not only was it a same day audition, I needed to be in Santa Monica in an hour and a half and I was in Woodland Hills.  Luckily I had my hair and make up done from an audition earlier, but I didn’t have time to choose my wardrobe, I had to go with what I was wearing, which was jeans and a blue tank.  I was near a Kohls so I made a quick run to the store and picked up a dark gray cardigan for a more “mom” look.

The audition was for a young mom for a Chevrolet commercial.  There was a long wait in the casting office. I looked around the room and saw that I was the only pregnant actress auditioning.  That could be a good thing or a bad thing.

I auditioned with a shy 5-year-old for this commercial.  I had to crouch down to her level, which was tough with my big 7 1/2 month pregnant belly.  So I felt a little off on my lines.  But I’m still grateful for the opportunity.

Special Thanks to Cathi Carlton for the audition!

Commercial Audition at Lisa Pantone Casting

Today I had a commercial audition for Lisa Pantone at The Casting Lounge on South LaBrea.  The audition was for a pregnant woman in a commercial spot.

There are just so many cute pregnant actresses in LA right now.   I gabbed with two other girls about our pregnancies while we were waiting for our turn to audition.

I am always happy to audition for Lisa Pantone.  She is a lot of fun.  Lisa is right there in the room for the audition and gives direction on what the client is looking for.

Special thanks to Lisa Pantone for the audition!

Commercial Audition at Broadcast

Today I had a commercial audition for Dan Cowan at Broad Cast.  Dan is a great commercial casting director and  I am happy to get a call from his office any time.  The audition was for GMC and the attire was upscale casual.

I walked into the casting office and was greeted by Hunter, a casting associate that I have seen many times before at Broadcast. Now I haven’t seen Hunter since I started showing, and when I walked in he exclaimed “What happened to you?”  Pretty funny actually.

The audition was a non-dialogue spot and I auditioned with a guy who played my spouse.  I’ve got to say, I love this spot.  Very clever.

Special thanks to Dan Cowan for the audition today!

Commercial Audition for TLC/Booth

Today I had a commercial audition for Loree Booth Casting.  This is my first time auditioning for this office.  I am always excited to audition for a new casting director!

Today’s spot was for a Lenscrafters.   I arrived at the casting facility at 6521 Homewood Ave for my 1:20 PM audition about 10 minutes early.  I signed in and waited for my turn to audition.

The spot was calling for a blonde woman in nice attire, but not neccesarily a pregnant woman.  I met the casting director and the first thing he said was “wow, you are with child”.  Hopefully I will still be in the running for this spot.

The audition was quick.  A non dialogue spot.  But I felt good about it.

Special thanks to Loree Booth for calling me in to audition for the first time!

Callback at Sanford Casting

Today I had a commercial callback for Kay Jewelers at Michael Sanford Casting.  A rule of thumb is to always wear the same outfit to the callback that you wore to the original audition.  I would have preferred to put on a nicer outfit, but I decided to stick with the jeans and cardigan I wore originally when I went to the audition  straight from work.

My callback was at 11 am.  It was going to be tight, I had a 2PM flight out of LAX.  So I arrived at the callback 20 minutes early and signed in.

I found out quickly that they were behind schedule…45 minutes behind.  So all I could do is wait.  I didn’t want to get myself all worked up about the time crunch because that would throw off my callback.  And I was thrilled to be there.  Any chance to book a commercial I am grateful for  So I chatted with a couple of girls in the waiting room  And a nice girl even let me go ahead of her.

The callback went great.  Michael welcomed me into the room where I met the director.  The clients were there as well.  Commercial callbacks are interesting.  As usual, the clients were all typing away on their computers when I walked in.  The director directs and they watch on the monitor.

I director seemed to like me.  He was very complimentary.  I was even asked to use a couple different pieces of jewelry.

When I left the callback I didn’t have a lot of time to get to the airport.  Instead of parking at the flyaway I drove straight to LAX.  By the Grace of God I made it to the airport an hour before my plane took off.   And I made my flight!

What a day!

Audition at Sanford Casting

Today my commercial agent, Richie, notified me of a same day commercial audition for Kay Jewelers.  Not only was it a same day audition, I needed to be in Hollywood in 45 minutes!  I was at work at  AIA Studios and I didn’t have time to change or style my hair, so I just jumped in my car.  I was wearing jeans and a gray cardigan.

The audition was for Michael Sanford Casting. I first met Michael about almost 3 years ago at a workshop and this is the second time he has invited me to audition!  Very cool. The audition was held at The Casting Underground in Hollywood.

I’ve always wanted to audition for Kay Jewelers.  I was paired with a guy who played my husband and I thought we had great chemistry together.

The only problem, the callback is on the 17th and I have 7am flight booked to Cleveland to visit family.  If they call me for a callback, I’ll have to try to change my flight.  I will be back in LA for the shoot.

Commercial Callback at Ross Lacy Casting

Today I had a commercial callback for Olive Garden at Ross Lacy Casting.  I was really excited to get the call, this is a great spot.

I arrived at 200 S. La Brea about 15 minutes early, and was am I glad that I did.  There was construction all around the casting facility and it took me extra time to find a parking space.  Luckily I found metered parking down the street and still walked in 5 minutes early.

There were a number of people called back for this commercial.  We were paired in groups for the audition and  I thought our group had good chemistry.

Thanks you to Ross Lacy for the callback!

Commercial Audition at Broad Cast

Today my commercial agent, Randi, called me to say that casting had requested me for a Sears Commercial in one hour.  She asked if I could make it.  I was thrilled!  Of course I can make it.  I knew it would be tight,  but I jumped in the shower right away.  I got ready really quick, and did most of my make up in the car at red lights, but I made it in time!

Today’s audition was for Dan Cowan at Broad Cast.  Dan is a great casting director who calls me in often and has even booked me.  I am happy to get a call from his office any time.  The attire was casual young mom so I wore jeans and a Tiffany blue cardigan.

The audition was a non-dialogue spot.  It was quick but fun.

Special thanks to Dan Cowan for the audition today!

Audition at Sanford Casting

I am very excited!  Today I had an audition for Michael Sanford Casting. I first met Michael about almost 2 years ago at a workshop and then saw him again last fall at AIA Studios.   And today he invited me to audition for the first time!

Today’s audition was for an HBO promo for True Blood.  The attire: Conservative Midwest Woman. They said they were not looking for “model types”, so I wore light make up and pulled my hair back.  I also wore my glasses to the audition.

I arrived at the casting office a couple minutes early wearing a conservative cardigan and skirt with pearl earrings and flats.  I read the character description and the information for the scene.  When it was my turn, I was paired with a guy who was to play my husband. The Casting Associate walked us through what they were looking for.  He told me to “lose the glasses”, which I did.

During the audition, Michael walked in the room, it was nice to be able to say hello.

It was so nice to audition at Sanford Casting.  Special thanks to Michael Sanford for the opportunity!!

Commercial Audition at Ross Lacy Casting

I had a commercial audition at Ross Lacy Casting today!  Today’s product was a hair product called Schwarzkopf.  The audition was calling for blondes, which is great for me.  The attire: sexy city chic.

I arrived at 200 S. La Brea wearing a pencil skirt and a royal purple cardigan with a skinny belt around my waist.  Since it was a hair product commercial, I wanted to make sure my hair looked great.  I curled it up and it looked pretty.  I was paired with another girl for the audition who was a different ethnicity.  Michael, the casting associate, gave the instructions for the audition once we were in the room.  I was assigned 2 lines, as was the other girl I auditioned with. There was also a lot of “business” at the beginning of the scene before we gave our lines.

I have to say, I felt really great about this audition.  This was a great character for me and I really went for it.  Now all I can do is let it go.  You’ve got to let auditions “roll of your back like water” in this industry.  It is my job to audition, and audition well and I felt I did that today.  After that, it is up to what the client is looking for.

Special thanks to my awesome agents at CU for believing in me and for sending me out on great auditions and also thanks to Ross Lacy Casting for calling me in!!

Commercial Audition for Jennifer

Today I had a commercial audition for Laray Mayfield Casting.  Today’s spot was for a big International Commercial Campaign for Dior.   I auditioned for a similar spot last month, but this wasn’t a callback.

I recognized the Casting Associate, Ian, right away when I walked in the room.  He gave the instructions for the audition.  They were similar to the first audition, but more specific, which led me to believe that hadn’t found what they were looking for the first round.

Thanks to Laray Mayfield for the audition!

Commercial Audition

Today I had a commercial audition for Gabrielle Schary Casting.  This is my first time auditioning for this office.  I am always excited to audition for a new casting director!

Today’s spot was for a Lash Appeal.   I arrived at the casting facility at 2601 Ocean Park Blvd for my 5:50 PM audition 20 minutes early.  You never know what traffic is going to look like on the 405 at rush hour, so I wanted to give myself plenty of time.  Lucky for me, the roads were pretty clear. I’ll have to remember this day, clear roads on the 405 do not happen very often.

When I arrived at the casting facility there were a number of girls of all types and looks waiting in the lobby.  I signed in and waited my turn to audition.  The commercial was a non-dialogue spot and was a really cute.

Thanks Gabrielle Schary for calling me to audition for the first time!  Hope to audition for you again.

Today’s spot was for a big International Commercial Campaign for Dior.   I arrived at the casting facility at 660 Santa Monica for my 1:15 PM audition 10 minutes early.  I signed in and waited my turn to audition.  There were so many tall, beautiful model types in the waiting room.

I met the Casting Associate, Ian, who was really friendly and gave the instructions for the audition.  I also met Sabyn, who joked with me prior to the audition.

Thanks Laray Mayfield calling me to audition for the first time!

Commercial Callback

Today I had a commercial callback for Hershey’s at Broadcast.  I was super excited, this spot is cute.   I was paired with a fellow CU client named PJ and I thought we played off each other well.

They asked me if I would consider being an extra in the commercial, but I said no.  It be fun, but would be a huge conflict for other commercials down the line.  I hope I made the right decision.

Thanks you Dan Cowan for the audition!

Commercial Audition

Today I had a commercial audition for Casting Director, Dan Cowan, at Broad-Cast. I am always glad to be called in for an audition for Dan Cowan.  The commercial was for KFC.  The type: mom.

I ran into a slow down on La Brea on the way to the audition.  I don’t know if it was a stalled vehicle, accident, or what but I was stressed out!  After putting down the street, I cut down a side street and was able to get to the audition site just minutes before the audition.  Not good.  .

I walked in to the casting office, signed in right on the dot, and looked over the storyboards as I caught my breath.  The door to the audition room opened right away and they were ready for me.

This was a non-dialogue spot and afterwards I walked out and just felt okay about my performance.  Those few minutes before you go into the room are important. I like to give myself enough time to look over the material and make my choices.   I’ll just have do better next time.  I’ am lucky that Dan Cowan calls me in to audition for him often and he knows my work.

Thank you Dan!

Commercial Callback

Oh what a morning!!

Today I received a same day callback notification for an Old Navy commercial at Lisa Field Casting.  I was hoping for the callback for this commercial, so I was elated.

The way it works is my agents submit me for an audition through a service called LA Casting and when they send an audition notification through this site, I receive a text message.  I then know to open up my e-mail account and read the audition notification to see where and when the audition or call back is.  Lastly, I call to confirm with my agents.  Well, I received the notification at 10:50 am and the callback was at 11:30 am at The Casting Cafe in West Hollywood, which is 40 minutes away (depending on traffic)!!!

I called to confirm with my agents at CU, and Richie answered the phone, laughing, as he asked if I could make it.  I told him I would be there, but I would never make it by 11:30am.  He told me to get there before 12:45 pm and he would call the Casting Director to let them know.

I just have to chuckle sometimes.  What is the crazy industry that I have chosen and why do I enjoy it all so much?

I jumped in the shower and got ready as quickly as possible.  I left the house right before 11:30 am and arrived at the Casting Cafe about 10 after 12 pm.   I walked into the casting office and there was a sea of brunettes in gowns in the waiting room.  There was only one other blonde, which could be good or bad, depending on how many girls they are casting and what they are looking for.  I signed in at 12:15 pm and there was a wait.  No problem!  It gave me time to file my nails, which were a little jagged.

When it was my turn to audition, I was paired with 2 other girls, one girl with reddish brown hair and one with dark brown hair.  I always like it when I audition with girls who have different looks than me.  Two girls who look alike would not be cast together in the same commercial, unless they were playing sisters.

I walked into the casting room and there were about 5 people in the room, the director and the clients, who are not introduced to us.  Benjamin, the casting associate, is there again running the audition, and he gave us the overview of what they are looking for.

I’ve got to say, I felt great about this audition!  I even received a couple chuckles from the clients on my take, which is always a good sign.  Let’s just hope that I am what they are looking for. Though, I have to say I am quite sensitive about the fact that I was able to make it to the audition right at 11:30am.  I really hope that does not work against me.

Commercial Audition

Today I had a commercial audition at Lisa Field Casting.  The audition was held at The Casting Cafe in West Hollywood.  Today’s audition was for Old Navy.  I’ve wanted to audition for an Old Navy Commercial for years!

This commercial is a non-dialog spot and I auditioned with 2 other girls.  We walked into the audition room and met Benjamin, the casting associate, who explained what the client is looking for.  I can’t say much about the content of the commercial, but I can say that I dusted off a gown to wear, which as a former pageant gal, was such a treat.

The commercial is casting before the holidays, but shoots in January.   I just really like this commercial and am really hoping to be called back for this one.  Oh, it would be a fun shoot!!

Commercial Callback AND Print Audition!

Oh what a day!  I had both a callback and a print casting. Oh, the life of an actress at it’s best!

Richie at CU called this morning to say that I had been called back for the CBS Promo!  How exciting!  Though, then I realized that I had a print casting at nearly the same time.  I called and e-mailed Aurora at KSR Models to see if I could go to the print casting early, and she said that I could go anytime between 1:30 PM and 5 PM.  What a relief.

I arrived at 200 S. La Brea for the call back at Ross Lacy Casting.  I primped in the bathroom for a couple minutes and then signed in.  I was paired with 3 different people for the audition and was in the last group for this promo.

Afterwards I jumped in the car and headed to Armstrong Casting today for a print casting.  The Print Campaign was for US Cellular.   The attire: young, hip mom.

I’ve been invited to print castings at Armstrong Casting a couple times this year and I always enjoy the experience.  First the photographer takes a couple photos, then they flip on a video camera and ask a couple questions so they can get a better sense of who you are.

Special thanks to Casting Directors Ross Lacy and Yvonne Armstrong for the auditions.

Commercial Audition

I had a commercial audition at Ross Lacy Casting today!  What a treat.  It was for a CBS Promo.

I arrived super early and was greeted by the Casting Associate, Spencer.  He called out “Jennifer” as I walked up to sign in. I answered “yes”, and he said that he was calling a different Jennifer.  I joked with him that “he was really good” if he recognized me from my headshot.

In this particular comedic spot, I had to lightly “smack” another person.  I really don’t like to do this kind of thing, but we rehearsed the spot a couple times before the audition was taped.  Spencer told me that they were casting people who were not afraid to hit or be hit.  So, I did my best (though I know I was still quite light in my smack).

This is the 3rd time I have been called in to audition for Ross Lacy Casting.  I’m so glad they recently discovered me .  Thank you Ross Lacy for calling me in!!

Two Auditions for Jennifer

Lucky me, I had 2 auditions today.

First audition was  a commercial audition.  Dan Cowan at Broadcast called me in to audition for “Expedia”.  This is a great spot and I felt really good about my audition, so I am really keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

Next I was off to Bass Casting in West Hollywood to audition for a short film.  The best thing is that I met Lauren Bass at a casting workshop a couple months ago and she called me in for this audition.  I’m not sure if this is the best role for me, but I did my best at the audition and I hope that Lauren will call me in again.

Overall, today was a great day.  I love having one audition in a day, let alone two!  That’s the life of a working actress!

Commercial Callback

I had a commercial callback for Truegreen!  The callback was at a new casting facility, 2601 Ocean Park Blvd in Santa Monica.  There was a huge accident on the 405 and the highway was backed up all the way to the 101 entrance onto the 405, so it took me an hour and 40 minutes to drive to Santa Monica.  Not only that, I had a dreadful day that I cannot even being to blog about.  I finally arrived in Santa Monica and quickly found a parking spot.  I often audition at 2701 Ocean Park, and I was on “autopilot” and automatically went to that studio.  Luckily 2601 was right next door, so it didn’t take long for me to walk to the correct studio.

When I arrived there were a couple girls in front of me so I had a few minutes to calm down.  I took a few deep breaths and reminded myself how blessed I was to be there.  I started to think about the spot and how exciting it is to get a callback.  When it was my turn to go in the room, I was ready!

The spot for Truegreen is really fun.  Again, I had one line of dialogue and gave several different interpretations.  I left feeling pretty darn good.

Thanks again to Ross Lacy Casting for the opportunity!

Today’s spot was for Truegreen.   I arrived at the casting facility at 200 South LaBrea for my 2 PM audition in good time.  I signed in and waited my turn to audition.   I was given one line and asked to say it a couple different ways.  I used the process that Megan Foley spoke about in her workshop 2 weeks ago.  I left feeling good about my audition.

Commercial Audition

I had a commercial audition today at ASG Casting.  Today’s audition was for Quest Internet.   The spot called for a group of friends chatting over lunch.  The attire: Fun, Stylish, cool daytime dining out attire. I wore a yellow dress and heels.

This is a great comedic spot.  And the 3 women I read with were top notch.  I felt like the 4 of us had great chemistry.  And I felt great about the audition.

Thanks to Randi at CU for the audition!

Commercial Audition

Today my commercial agent, Randi, notified me of a same day commercial audition at Kathy Knowles Casting.  The casting office is in Santa Monica, so I made the mad dash from work in Burbank to Santa Monica in record time!  I was even 15 minutes early, as I should be of course!  Lucky for me a parking spot even opened up as I pulled on the street.  What luck!

Today’s audition was for a Bounty Commercial.   The spot called for young mom spending time with her friend, so I arrived at the audition dressed in a casual black dress, a bright blue cardigan and flats.  I felt good about my read for this super cute spot.  Though today I read with a girl who looked just like me, who was also named Jennifer.  Not good.  As an actress, you always hope to read with someone with a different look then you.  Two girls of the same type would not be cast in a commercial together.  But, I can’t worry about that.   But my job as an actress is to audition and audition well. And if I am one the client is looking for, then that is just the frosting on the cake.

Special thanks to my awesome agents at CU for believing in me and for sending me out on great auditions!

Commercial CALLBACK!

What a day, what a day.  First of all, I was thrilled to receive the call from Randi at CU that I had a callback for a Walmart Commercial.  The day is supposed to go perfect, right?

This morning I woke up and our apartment didn’t have water!  I called my Apartment Manager and he said it would be back on soon. He didn’t say why it was off, but we do have a couple open apartments in our small complex that are being upgraded.  So, when the water was finally turned back on, I rushed to get showered and ready for work at AIA Studios. I called my boss to let her know I would be a little late to work.  I needed to getready for my 2:15 PM callback that morning!

When the time came, I left AIA for Castaway Studios on Beverly Blvd.  I gave myself plenty of time for travel and arrived at 1:45 PM.  When I arrived the lobby was filled with girls my age in cocktail dresses.   One of the first rules for commercial callbacks is to dress exactly like you did for the original audition.  So I arrived wearing Khaki shorts and a tank for my “young mom” role.  My first thought was, “had the spot changed?  Uh oh, I did not get the message about the change in attire.”.   But you can’t let things like that throw you off your game as an actress.  So, I just signed in and waited for my turn.

However, I soon realized that the girls in the cocktail dresses were at the studio for a different Walmart Commercial.  And all the of cocktail dress girls needed to finish their auditions before casting moved on to the spot I was called back for.  All I can say is thank goodness for cell phones!  I was able to play around on facebook while I waited.

At 5:00 PM, casting was ready for my spot.  The Casting Director called all the women in the room for a brief explanation.  I looked around the room and there were only about 12 of us callback for the commercial.  It made me feel really good to know I was in that small group.

After the explanation, we were asked to  leave the room and the callbacks began.  I was the second to audition.  I went in for my callback, greeted the Walmart Execs and did my thing.  This spot did not have any dialogue, but was about interacting with a small child, who was playing my daughter.  This is a really cute spot and I would love to be a part of it.  I am a lucky girl to have been called back.

Commercial Audition

Walmart must be rolling out a huge commercial campaign because today I had my third audition for a Walmart commercial!  Different spot, different casting directors.  In fact, I auditioned at a new casting office today, Castaway Studios, where I auditioned for Marisa and Ray

The spot called for a young mom. I’m so glad I cut my hair.  I feel like I fit the “young mom look” now.

Special thanks to my agent Randi for the audition!

Commercial Audition at Broadcast

Today my agent Randi called me with a same day commercial audition for Dan Cowan at Broad-Cast. I have been receiving more same day auditions then ever before, this is the trend in commercial auditions.

The audition was for a Jenny Craig spot with actress Valerie Bertinelli.  The wardrobe: Backyard BBQ attire.  I arrived at Broadcast and there was a bunch of women in the waiting room.  Some in dresses, some in shorts.  I was wearing khaki capris and a peach shirt.  My favorite casting associate, Mark, was busy keeping the audition moving smoothly.  It was a hot day in LA today, and the waiting room was quite warm.

When it was my turn, I was given three different takes for my line.  I felt pretty good about the audition.  Thanks Dan Cowan for the opportunity.

Commercial Audition

Today my commercial agent, Richie, notified me of a same day commercial audition.  Usually I get a day’s notice, but this audition was scheduled for today for 3:45 PM at the Ocean Park Casting Facility in Santa Monica.  Sometimes same day auditions mean driving to the casting office with curlers in my hair.  Hey, an actress has to do what an actress has to do!

The audition was for a young mom in a Toyota spot.   I arrived at the audition dressed in my “young mom attire”, a cardigan and khakis capris.    This is a really cute spot, and I did get a laugh from the casting assistant, which is always a good sign, but I fear I might be too young for the role.   I just don’t think I look like I can have a 7  or 8 year old.  I actually look younger than I am.

I have been going out for a  lot of “young mom” roles lately, and I am considering changing my look to accommodate this. Specifically, I am thinking about cutting my hair.  Any thoughts?

Commercial Audition at Broad-Cast

Today I had a commercial audition for Dan Cowan at Broad-Cast. I am always thrilled when I have an audition at Broad-Cast.  Dan Cowan and everyone in the office is so nice.

Today’s spot was for Mitsubishi.  I arrived early and was greeted by Mark, one of the casting associates at Broadcast.  Mark is great, I am always happy to see him.  He always remembers my name.

The audition went really well.  This is a really cute, non dialogue spot.

Special thanks to my agents at Commercials Unlimited for 2 auditions this week!

Commercial Audition on Wednesday

Today my commercial agent, Randi, called me with an audition for Lisa Pantone at The Casting Lounge.  Usually I get a day’s notice, but this audition was scheduled for TODAY between 2-5 PM!  I was thrilled to get the call with an audition, no matter the time frame, and was able to leave work a little early so that I could get down to The Casting Lounge on South LaBrea.

The audition was for a young mom in a Walmart spot.  Randi told me they were actually looking for women 30-40, so she told me to “age it up” since I’m in my 20’s.  I arrived at the audition dressed in my cardigan and khakis with my hair pulled back (I usually look older with my hair pulled back).

There was a long line of women in the casting office when I arrived, but I was happy to wait for my turn at a national spot.  This was my second time auditioning for Lisa Pantone and I just think she is fantastic.  Lisa is right there in the room for the audition and gives direction on what the client is looking for.  Not only did I feel great about my audition, but Lisa told me I gave a really nice read.

Two Auditions on Wednesday!

With the summer around the corner, things have really slowed down. However, today I had not one, but two auditions!

The first audition was for a SAG Low-Budget Feature Film called “The Disconnect”. I was called in for the role of Karen Nilson, a wife and mother who will “do anything to protect her child”. The role actually called for a woman in her 30s to early 40s. I’m in my 20s, so I decided to give it my best shot. I arrived at CAZT casting facility in Hollywood and there were two women scheduled in front of me, but neither were ready for their audition. So, I went in and gave a strong audition. I walked out feeling really great. It’s too bad that I’m a little young for this role!

The second audition was for a national commercial. My agent, Richie Reiner, sent me to Ocean Park Casting in Santa Monica, CA to audition for a Qwest Commercial.  The attire: “Orange County Housewife”.   This commercial spot is a funny one and it moved pretty fast.  I felt pretty good about my audition.

Commercials

Good news!  First, my American Express Commercial has been renewed for another 13 weeks!  In this commercial, I have whisked my commercial husband off to Italy with the airline miles we accumulated by using our American Express Card.  We are sitting in a tiny cafe in Italy ordering dessert.

Second, I am being “held” for a 13 week session for the Tidy Cat Litter Commercial that I shot right before the holidays.  This means that for the next 13 weeks I cannot audition for any other pet product commercials because I have filmed a commercial for Tidy Cat. In this commercial, I am sitting on a big yellow chair in my home with my 2 cats and I share what my favorite scents are.

Times are tough and commercial production is down, so I feel blessed to have these opportunities.

Commercial Audition for Jennifer

Today I auditioned for a Hewlett Packard Computer commercial at Maryclaire Sweeters Casting.  The commercial called for a stewardess, so I arrived wearing a cute blouse and pencil skirt with my hair pulled back. The audition went well!  Though the best part was that I actually met Maryclaire in the waiting room and had a chance to thank her for inviting me to audition.  What a treat.
